Onam is Kerala's most
colorful festival. Onam celebrates the golden age of king
Mahabali,the mythical ruler of Kerala. The people of kerala
celebrates this festival with flower carpets and lights, feasting , new
clothes , fireworks and games.
In the hot months of April
and May, attention shifts to Trissur for the Trissur Pooram,
where caparisoned elephants , glittering umbrellas, fire works and the
rising sounds of the traditional percussion ensemble combine in front
of the vadakkunathan temple, offering a treat for the senses.

Festival is accompanied by the possession of 51 elephants
RICE BOATS are
remodeled traditional thatch-roofed rice boats called "Kettuvallams",
with single and double bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. These Houseboats
do not have any electricity and in evening the hurricane lamps add to
the overall ambience and unique experience.
The elephant rides
are definitely worth going for, and rarely seen anywhere else in the
world !!. Feed the elephant on your own , step on their trunks to climb
on....
The snake boats of Kerala
are long, low slung dugouts with beautifully decorated sterns and manned
by up to 100 oarsmen cutting through the waters in rhythmic harmony. The
boats carry colorful , decorated umbrellas which add to this colorful
event. This annual event celebrates the seafaring and martial traditions
of ancient Kerala.
