Ask any visitor "What is Nepal's
biggest attraction?". The answer invariably will be
the Himalaya. Many come to simply look and be
over whelmed while many others come to conquer. Today,
the Nepalese Himalaya plays host to huge contingents of
aspiring as well as accomplished mountaineers from all
over the world every year.
Among the expedition circuits, the
most popular are:
Annapurna region to the north of
Pokhara
Everest region in eastern Nepal
Langtang-Helambu region north of
Kathmandu
There are four seasons for
Mountaineering in Nepal :
Spring (March-May), summer (June – August), autumn
(September-November) and winter (December-February).
While weather conditions during spring and autumn are
fairly favorable, they can turn quite unpredictable in
summer and winter. No wonder most of the mountaineering
expeditions try to take their shots at the peaks of
their choice during spring and autumn. This does not,
however, stop the more hardy souls to run the gauntlet
during the other seasons, and many have done so
successfully.
