Festival-Durga Puja

Founded by Swami Vivekananda, the world famous yogi and disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, it is the Headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission and is 6.4 kms from Howrah Station on the banks of the River Hooghly. This International tourist attraction is located near Belur in Howrah district. Its sprawling prayer hall with a statue of Ramakrishna is remarkable.

Calcutta is a city with strong cultural, literary and religious flavours. this is the home of many of India's leaders. Activities in the field of fine arts, music, dance, theatre and writing make the city a happening place. The calm of the Hooghly combined with the rush of people in the streets make Calcutta a city to visit. Durga Puja, of course, is still the most talked about and photographed festival that is celebrated every autumn. For five frenzied days, to the beat of drums, Durga is worshipped. The Mother goddess returns to earth and, during that sojourn, Calcutta becomes Camelot!
